Open Position for Lecturer in Education

Södertörn University is an institution in Stockholm that educates, researches, and collaborates for sustainable societal development. Approximately 14,000 students study here across about 80 programs and over 300 courses. Education and research are conducted in the fields of humanities, social sciences, engineering, and natural sciences. The university also offers teacher education with an intercultural profile and police education. Much of the research focuses on issues related to the Baltic Sea and Eastern Europe. The teacher education program at Södertörn University offers programs intended for various areas of operation, from preschool to high school. Two programs lead to a preschool teacher degree, five to a primary teacher degree, and two to a subject teacher degree. The teacher education has two profile areas: interculturality and education. The subject of pedagogy belongs to the Department of Pedagogy and Didactics at the Teacher Education and offers independent courses at the undergraduate and advanced levels as well as a master's program. The subject also has a significant role in the preschool teacher and teacher programs. Research-wise, the subject has a strong and internationally anchored research environment in general pedagogy and general didactics. The subject is also part of the doctoral education area of Educational Science Studies. More information can be found here (https://www.sh.se).

We are looking for someone who has a PhD in pedagogy and has experience in teaching in teacher education and the subject of pedagogy, as well as research relevant to the teaching profession, particularly in the areas of curriculum theory, grading, and assessment. You will be employed at the Department of Pedagogy and Didactics and primarily work within teacher education.

Job Responsibilities

The job responsibilities include teaching and course responsibility in teacher education, including courses in curriculum theory, grading, and assessment. The responsibilities may also include teaching in the subject of pedagogy, as well as course development. Supervision of independent projects may also be included, both within the subject of pedagogy and teacher education. The position as a lecturer includes collaboration with colleagues from other subjects at the university. Administrative tasks such as course planning may also occur. Teaching is conducted in Swedish.

Qualifications

To be eligible for employment as a lecturer in pedagogy, the candidate must have demonstrated pedagogical skills and have obtained a doctoral degree in pedagogy relevant to curriculum theory and didactics, or have equivalent scientific competence. The applicant must have completed higher education pedagogical training of at least 7.5 credits or have equivalent competence. The applicant must also possess the personal qualities necessary to perform the position well and to represent the university in a way that benefits the operation.

For this position, the applicant must be proficient in teaching in Swedish.

Scientific competence is demonstrated through scientific publications in the relevant subject area, participation in research projects, research collaborations, collaborative assignments, contributions to the development of the subject area, as well as through assignments as an expert, editor, or equivalent.

Pedagogical competence is demonstrated through high-quality teaching and significant extent, participation in pedagogical development work, a self-reflective approach to students' learning and experiences as well as one's own teaching role, collaborative initiatives, research connection in higher education, and course development.

Assessment Criteria

The assessment criteria for the employment of a lecturer shall be the degree of such competence required for eligibility for employment.

For this position, scientific and pedagogical competence will be weighted equally.

Additionally, the following assessment criteria have been established for this position (in order of priority). The following points must be documented.

  • Good collaboration skills
  • Pedagogical competence at the university level within teacher education, particularly in the areas of curriculum theory, grading, and assessment
  • Research competence focused on the teaching profession, particularly in the areas of curriculum theory, grading, and assessment
  • Teacher degree or equivalent
  • Pedagogical competence at the university level within the subject of pedagogy
  • Administrative competence

The Position

The position is full-time and is a fixed-term employment until 2026-07-15. Start date by agreement, but no later than 2025-08-01.
